Velma L. Latimer, 97, of Marshall, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. William W. Harlow and Rev. Dave Huck will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fitzgibbon Cancer Center or First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Born January 7, 1909, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Carl Grimes and Hattie Hains Grimes. She graduated from high school in Colorado Springs, Colo. and was a graduate of Missouri Valley College in Marshall where she received a bachelor of science degree in education. On Sept. 1, 1928, she married Richard "Dick" Latimer who preceded her in death on April 14, 1989. She had lived in Fairville all of her married life, moving to Marshall in 1989. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church in Marshall. She was also a member of the Fairville Extension Club.
Survivors include her son, Ron Latimer and wife, Connie, of Marshall; two grandsons, Scott Latimer of Marshall and Brad Latimer of Fitchburg, Wis.; three great-grandsons, Christopher, Nathan and Nicholas Latimer all of Knob Noster; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Duane Latimer, and one brother, June Grimes.
