Evelyn Hill, 70, of Marshall, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Fitzgibbon Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Cornell Suddeth officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Slater. Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Marshall and from 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, until service time at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Central District Baptist Association Music Department.
Evelyn Hill was born May 9, 1936, in Slater, the daughter of Lacey and Eva Taylor Asbury. She retired from the Slater public school system where she worked as a para-professional. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall where she was the church pianist for over 20 years. She was also pianist for the Second Baptist Church in Slater. She was a foster parent for over 20 years. She was a member of the Gertrude Madison Order of Eastern Star and the Court of Cyrenes. She was a life member of the Central District Association where she served as historian, recording secretary and also in the district choir.
Survivors include three sons, Warren Hill of North Kansas City, Gabriel Hill of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dominic Hill of Naples, Fla.; three daughters, Machille Hill of Marshall, Eva Hill and LaToya Johnson, both of Slater; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter and one brother.v
