Fred R. Clause, 85, of Creve Coeur, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2006, at Deiters Funeral Home at in East Peoria, Ill. Rev. Alan Newhall will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Deiters Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, Ill.

Born Oct. 10, 1920 in Sweet Springs, he was the son of Sant and Minnie Hill Clause. On May 4, 1955, he married Ida Ruth Preston in Peoria, Ill. She preceded him in death in May 1994. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving from September 1940 to October 1945, during which time he spent two years in the Aleutian Islands. He was a machinist for Caterpillar Inc. where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of UAW Local No. 974. Survivors include three stepdaughters, Bobbie Straker of Pekin, Ill, Mary E. Smith of Morton, Ill., and Barbara Lutton of Three Oaks, Mich.; two sisters, Amy Martin of Marshall and Edna Vollrath of Creve Coeur, Ill.; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Bill, Joe, and Jim, one sister, Daisy, and one grandson.
