Eliza Bernice Grimes, 94, of Shepherdsville, Ky., formerly of Sweet Springs, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Norton's Suburban Hospital in Louisville.
Visitation was held from 11 to noon on Monday, July 3, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs. Rev. Charles R. Ahlemann officiated. Funeral services were held at noon at the church. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Pallbearers were D. Ryan Lee, Justin Baird, Nicholas Lee and D.J. Shepherd. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs. Arrangements in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs.
Born Jan. 25, 1912, in Houstonia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry Stanley and Cousby J. Mullins Stanley. On June 4, 1932, in Sweet Springs, she married James Edward Grimes who preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1992. She had worked and lived in Sweet Springs for 65 years. In 1998, she went to live with her children, dividing her time between Missouri and Kentucky until her death. She was a homemaker and volunteered at the Community Clothes Closet for more than 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs and president of the Amoma Class for many years..
Survivors include one son, James W. Grimes and wife, Loretta, of Shepherdsville, Ky.; one daughter, Mary Lou Lee and husband, Richard, of St. Louis; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Keser Stewart, Nettie Staples and Dorothy Van Steenburgh, and two brothers, Floyd Stanley and Radford Stanley.
