Superintendent Paul Vaillancourt said the board approved a float trip on the Niangua River for later this summer by Slater FFA members. He said the float trip is an annual activity of the local chapter.
He also said the board approved giving away about 18 old computer monitors the school no longer needs. Ads are to be placed in local media.
Adam Nuru, a Missouri Valley College graduate, was expected to sign a contract for a one-third high school, two-thirds junior high social studies teaching position on Monday, June 5.
Other recent hirings by the Slater schools include hiring Chris Ferri as a high school special services instructor. Ferri will take the place of David Williams, who resigned to take a job at Butterfield Youth Services.
Two elementary teachers were also hired, Staci Meyer to teach fourth grade and Kara Brown to teach fifth grade. Vaillancourt said the positions were filling positions that were reinstated because of a brighter financial outlook including a more beneficial state "foundation formula" for small districts such as Slater.
The only positions remaining to be filled as of the start of June, he said, are some coaching assignments on the junior high level.
