Charles Clinton Bennington Jr., 86, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Fla.
There will be no visitation and services will be private. Memorials are suggested to the Leesburg Regional Medical Center Foundation at 701 N. Planetto St., Suite E, Leesburg, Fla., 34748.
Born March 8, 1920, in Slater, he was the son of the late Charles Clinton Bennington Sr. and Roberta Frances Ruff. On March 19, 1943, in Washington, D.C., he married Constance Ellen Wolford, who preceded him in death. He was a 1938 graduate of Slater High School and moved to Arlington, Va., in 1940 to work for the General Accounting Office. He retired in 1973 from the position of executive officer for Europe, Africa and the Middle East region, Federal Aviation Administration in Brussels, Belgium. He was a member of Slater Baptist Church and was a past member of Aurora Lodge No. 254 A.F. & A.M. in Illinois.
Survivors include one sister, Roberta B. Wood of Gettysburg, Pa.; two sons, Craig Alan and wife Peggy of Chesterfield and Robert Clark and wife Elizabeth of Fairfax, Va.; two granddaughters, Stacy B. Bridewell and husband Robert of Vestavia Hills, Ala., and Alana B. Consolo and husband Joseph of Fort Myers, Fla.
