Steve Schamens, 54, of Kearney, formerly of Marshall, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
Born Feb. 19, 1952, in Independence, he was the son of the late Dale Schamens and Rosemary Elder Schamens Ellis. He married Elaine Kleinschmidt, who survives of the home. He had lived in the Kansas City area the last 10 years and was a 1970 graduate of Marshall High School. He was an engineer for Kansas City Southern Railroad and also worked for Illinois, Central and Gulf Railroad and Gateway Western Railroad. He was a Baptist.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Stacey Ritchie and husband Gary of Marshall and Julie Henning and husband Kyle of Kansas City; three sisters, Carol O'Leary of Marshall, Roberta Griffitt of Marshall and Mistye Ellis of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ritchie, Jaden Henning, McKenna Ritchie and Skyla Henning; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Matthew Schamens-Ritchie; and one sister, Marsha Wisdom.
