Catherine E. Wheeler, 88, of Slater, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Robert Sisney will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Gerald Gerhard as he sings "Whispering Hope" and "It Is No Secret." Pallbearers will be Terry Jordan, Stephen Allegri, Gerald Kitchen, Harry Whitlock, David Bingaman and Dale LaRue. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church in Slater in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born Nov. 16, 1917, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Edna Bartel LaRue. On Oct. 7, 1937, in Sedalia, she married Deming Wheeler, who preceded her in death March 21, 1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater. She was a member of the church choir, secretary of the Willing Workers Sunday school class, chairperson of the church's social committee and messenger of the Saline County Baptist Association.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Hugh Lee LaRue; and one sister, Ruth Keough.
