Richard DeVere "R.D." Shepard, 78, of Marshall, died Monday, June 5, 2006, at home as the result of a house fire.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
Born Oct. 24, 1927, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Albert Wesley Shepard and Alice Morraine Howell Shepard. In December 1974, he married Jessie Marie "Tiny" Rader, who died with him at home. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and had also lived in Chehalis, Wash., for 17 years. He was a farmer and construction worker. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Vogl and husband Bill of rural Marshall; two sons, Richard L. Shepard and wife Patricia of Granbury, Texas, and Harley Shepard and wife Martha of Blue Springs; two stepsons, Mike Deibel of rural Marshall and Kenny Deibel and wife Sharon of rural Miami; one sister, Virginia M. Shepard North of Slater; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one stepgranddaughter.
