Rev. Clarence O. Pierce, 89, of Gilliam, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Ron Bissey will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the funeral home. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Newark Cemetery in Newark. Rev. David Strong will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice.
Born June 9, 1916, in Salem, Ark., he was the son of the late Fred Joseph and Stacy Catherine Woolford Pierce. On June 27, 1937, in Louisiana, he married Oneta F. Abbett, who survives of the home. He was a member and longtime pastor of Slater Church of God. He had been in the ministry for over 55 years and was very active in the church campground near Columbia which bears his name, Camp Pierce. In addition to his work in the ministry, he also managed a lumber yard, was a check courier and worked for the Moberly school system.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Joyce Coleman of Gilliam; one son, Royce Pierce of Gilliam; a grandson/son, Joseph Royce Pierce of Marshfield; one sister, Pearl Tate of Anderson, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and one great-great-grandson.
