Friday, May 26, 2006

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has announced that 20 MS Walk events sponsored in April by the organization's Mid American Chapter, including one in Marshall April 29, raised more than $500,000 to help fight the disease.

The MS Walk in Marshall included 99 walkers who raised nearly $20,000.

"Money raised from the 2006 MS Walk will fund national research into the cause of and cure for multiple sclerosis," officials said in a news release. "It will also support local client programs, which help the 25,000 eastern Kansas and western Missouri residents affected by MS every day."

Multiple sclerosis is a disease that affects the central nervous system.
