Jerry D. "Shane" Rich, 62, of Marshall, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
Friends may call Friday, May 26, until 5 p.m. or Saturday, May 27, prior to the service at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Grand Pass Community Cemetery in Grand Pass with military rites. William W. Harlow will officiate. Memorials are suggested to Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital.
Born Dec. 25, 1943, in Grand Pass, he was the son of the late Delbert Rich and Beulah Smith Rich. He attended Santa Fe School. On Dec. 30, 1967, in Higginsville, he married Grace Bigler. He had lived in Marshall most of his life and retired in 1984 as a boat operator on the Missouri River for the Corps of Engineers. He served in the U.S. Navy and was on the USS Newport News out of Cambridge, Md., and served during the Cuban crisis in Vietnam. He was a member of Slater Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4367. He was a licensed pilot and was a Christian.
Additional survivors include one son, Toby Shane Rich of Marshall; one sister, Joyce Dambacher of Grand Pass; and two nieces.
