Robert B. "Bob" Gillum Jr., 85, of Wayzata, Minn., formerly of Slater, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in Wayzata, Minn.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Slater City Cemetery. Rev. Pam Sebastian will officiate. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Slater Presbyterian Church, with visitation preceding the service. Memorials are suggested to Slater Presbyterian Church or the Gary R. Pointer Memorial Chapter of Quail Unlimited in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born May 21, 1920, in Kansas City, he was the son of the late Robert B. Gillum Sr. and Maudie Page Gillum. On Aug. 12, 1943, in Kansas City, he married Betty Corkins, who survives of the home. He was a graduate of Rosedale High School and Kansas City Kansas Junior College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Army Reserves for 29 years. He was an active member of Slater Presbyterian Church. He served on the Slater Park Board, Slater Board of Education and Slater Development Corporation. He was a member and past president of the Slater Rotary Club and a counselor for Boy Scout Troop No. 41. He belonged to the Saline County Coin Club for many years and was an avid fisherman and quail hunter. He also raised prized English setters for many years. He and his wife lived in Slater for 49 years and owned and operated Gillum Cleaners from 1946 to 1978. They were also part owners and operators of Kiva Bowl for 17 years. He served as Saline County commissioner for the 2nd District for eight years. He and his wife had lived in Wayzata since 1995, where they were members of Calvin Presbyterian Church and active participants in the Senior Live-Yers at Ridgedale YMCA.

Gillum III and his wife Kathy of Wayzata, Minn.; one daughter, Linda Breck and husband Greg of Bridgewater, N.J.; three sisters, Marjorie Yeamans and husband Jack of New Braunfels, Texas, Virginia Spiers and husband Homer of Independence and Shirley Bardwell and husband Floyd of LaCygne, Kan.; one brother, Bill Gillum and wife Martha of Sandwich, Ill.; six grandchildren, Andy Gillum, Amy Gillum, Patrick Gillum, Liesel Breck, John Breck and Jennifer Lampe; one great-grandson, Gregory Lampe; and several nieces and nephews.
