Dale G. Winfrey, 83, of Marshall, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall with military rites. Memorials are suggested to Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Born Sept. 17, 1922, in DeWitt, he was the son of the late John Eugene Winfrey and Elizabeth Lexia Goyer Winfrey. On Nov. 28, 1951, he married Cora Miller, who survives of the home. He had lived in Marshall since 1974 and worked for the Missouri State Highway Department for 18 years. He had also worked for Caterpillar Co. in Peoria, Ill., for several years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Daly and was a member of Malta Bend American Legion Post 558.
Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Proffitt and husband Jim of rural Trenton, Patty Palmer and husband Ralph of Slater and Sharon Dickey and husband Shawn of Cortland, Ohio; two sons, Claude W. Winfrey of Trenton and Kelly Winfrey and wife Heather of Higginsville; seven grandchildren, Dawn Bru, Jason Gann, Brandon Palmer, Tara Palmer, Kellie Danielle Winfrey, Nichalous Winfrey and Kathryn Dickey; two great-grandchildren, Hillary Bru and Keyton Meyer; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.
