Sister Mary Francene (Catherine Louise) Summers, RSM, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Mercy Villa in Omaha, Neb.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. Father Kevin Gormley and Monsignor Emmett Summers will officiate. Deacon/homilist will be Rev. Michael Lewis. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Shackelford. Memorials are suggested to Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64138; Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Shackelford in care of Tom Summers, Rt. 2, Marshall, Mo. 65340; or Sisters of Mercy Health and Retirement Fund, 1845 S. 72nd St., Omaha, Neb. 68124. Memorials may be sent in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home of Marshall.

She was an educator in a number of Mercy schools in Omaha, Kansas City, Independence and Marshall. After retiring from teaching in 1972, she served in pastoral care at Mercy Hospital in Denver, Colo., from 1972 to 1975 and Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1975 to 1989. She retired from active ministry in Kansas City in 1990 and moved to Mercy Villa Retirement Center in Omaha in October 2002. From 1962 to 1968, she ministered in the formation of young women discerning vocation to religious life in Omaha.

Survivors include two brothers, Monsignor Emmett Summers of Kansas City and Jim Summers of Olathe, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Summers and Bridget Barr Summers; and two brothers, Mike Summers and Richard Summers.
