Leon Johnson, 77, of Slater, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. David L. Duncan will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Mary Lee Sisney as she sings "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden." Pallbearers will be Robert Roder, Jerry Roder, Rusty Page, Carl Boggs, John Markovich and Tom Martin. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Slater Veterans Memorial Park.
Born July 11, 1928, in Slater, he was the son of the late Carsey Johnson and Bonnie Windmiller Johnson. On June 29, 1949, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Delores M. "Dodie" Eichholtz, who preceded him in death Nov. 19, 1980. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving 20 years of active duty. He later worked at Gillum Cleaners in Slater and BHA in Slater for 15 years until his retirement.
Survivors include one son, Leon D. "Duke" Johnson of Slater; two sisters, Bobby Jo Roder and Betty Sue Page, both of Slater; and several nieces and nephews.
