Lady Owls sink Hannibal
HANNIBAL -- The Marshall girls' swimming team won eight of 11 events Thursday for a 92-75 dual meet victory at Hannibal.
The Lady Owls swept the relays, improving their time to within four-and-a-half seconds of the state qualifying standard in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:54.09) -- in which the Kellers, junior Rachel and freshman Maddy, senior Jessica Morton and sophomore Laura Musick performed.
The Keller girls, Musick and sophomore Rachel Willis were first in the 200 medley (2:06.45) and Willis was joined by freshman Stephanie Heinzler, senior Rebecca Morton and sophomore Chloe Pointer for a blue ribbon in the 400 free (4:44.06).
In individual events, Rachel Keller and Musick each won twice. Keller took the 50 free (27.63 seconds), missing the state cut by 1.24 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:11.85). Musick was only off the standard 2.35 seconds while winning the 100 free (1:00.34), giving her a rare back-to-back victory after just getting out of the water in first place in the 100 butterfly (1:10.06).
Maddy Keller claimed victory in the 100 breast (1:23.98). Between them, Musick and the Keller girls have 12 wins this season.
Heinzler was second in the 200 free, as was Maddy Keller in the 200 individual medley. Third-place finishes were recorded by Rebecca Morton in the 200 IM and 100 free, Willis in the 50 and 500 free, Pointer in the 200 free, Jessica Morton in the 100 fly and sophomore Symone Campbell in the 100 breast.
The 200 medley combo of Heinzler, Pointer and the Morton twins and the 400 free quartet of Campbell, senior Nikki Cooley and freshmen Kayla Henderson and Brittany Tyler also placed third.
Marshall will be back in the water Saturday at the Warrensburg Invitational.
