The annexation paves the way for replacing the two bridges on Eastwood by enabling the city to apply for a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation Bridge Replacement Municipalities program.
Officials have said that the project is a good fit for the grant, but it wouldn't qualify as long as the bridges were outside the city limits.
The bridges provide a link between the city and residents of the Montague Hill area just east of Marshall.
The city will now apply for about $1.6 million from MoDOT, with local contributions to the project expected to be shared by the city and the Marshall Special Road District.
Total costs of the project are estimated at about $2 million.
Before the council voted on the ordinance City Administrator Charles Tryban noted that the period of public comment had expired and that at the public hearing on the measure March 6 no opposition was expressed.
The vote was unanimous among the seven council members present.
