Donald Merchant, 85, of Warrensburg, formerly of Marshall, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at First Assembly of God in Marshall. Rev. Dale Bean will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to First Assembly of God or the Missouri Veterans Home.
Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Walter Henry Merchant and Mary Ann Clemons Merchant. On April 3, 1947, he married Ola Adams, who preceded him in death Aug. 25, 1984. On March 10, 1986, he married Jean Bias Breeden, who preceded him in death May 14, 2003. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a member of First Assembly of God in Marshall. He worked for 17 years at the Marshall Municipal Utilities power plant and retired as owner/operator of Merchant Plumbing. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Merchant and wife Loretta of Jefferson City and Larry Merchant and wife Cherry of Marshall; one stepdaughter, Sue Berry and husband Ron of Sedalia; one stepson, Daniel Breeden of Cleveland; one brother, Vaughn "Cotton" Merchant of Marshall; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
