Dr. Gerald L. Hansbro, age 87, passed away on February 18, 2006 at the A.G. Rhodes Home at Wesley Woods, Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Hansbro was born in Sweet Springs, Missouri, on September 19, 1918, and was a graduate of Marshall High School. He continued his education at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Northwestern University, where he received his MD degree. Following his graduation from the School of Medicine at Northwestern University, Dr. Hansbro served as a fellow at the Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota. Upon completion of his fellowship in Rochester, he moved to Springfield, Missouri, to begin private practice until his entrance into the Army Medical Corps, serving in the Korean War, and later at Army medical facilities located in Sapporo, Japan. Upon discharge from the Army Medical Corps in 1954, Dr. Hansbro returned briefly to Springfield, Missouri, and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1955 to begin private practice in general surgery. At the conclusion of his surgical practice in 1977, Dr. Hansbro joined St. Luke's Medical Center, where he served as medical director until his retirement in 1982. Dr. Hansbro was board certified in general surgery and held membership with The American College of Surgeons, Maricopa County Medical Society, 38th Parallel Medical Society and Mayo Clinic Alumni Association.
He is survived by his son, Larry Hansbrough, daughter-in-law, Mary Hansbrough and granddaughter, Jordan Hansbrough of Kennesaw, Georgia, as well as a cousin, Mr. Douglas Tooker Jr. of Sweet Springs, Missouri, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Marian Hansbro of Marshall, Missouri.
The cremation will be interred at Bethlehem Cemetery, Marshall Junction Missouri.
