Laverne Nelson, 79, of Marshall, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall. Rev. James C. Long will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brad Guthrey, Scott Guthrey, James Guthrey, Todd Guthrey, Brian Schultz and Joel Schultz. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with visitation following from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Born Dec. 8, 1926, in Pike County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Denby Parker and Mary Alta Nixon Parker. On March 5, 1948, she married R.E. "Bob" Schultz. On Aug. 4, 1974, she married Charles Hays, who preceded her in death March 25, 1975. On Oct. 17, 1980, she married Richard E. Nelson, who preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1997. She had lived in Marshall most of her life and was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and Marshall Chapter 408 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Guthrey and husband Charles of Marshall; two sons, Steve Schultz and wife Linda of rural Columbia and Greg Schultz and wife Shirley of Marshall; eight grandchildren, Brad Guthrey and wife Sarah, Scott Guthrey and wife Rachel, James Guthrey, Todd Guthrey and wife Jennifer, Brian Schultz, Makenzie Schultz, Johanna Schultz and Joel Schultz; and six great-grandchildren, Isaiah Guthrey, Sophia Guthrey, Charles Guthrey, Isabelle Guthrey, Chelsea Guthrey and Hadley Guthrey.
