Rev. Charles A. Parker, 90, of Columbia, formerly of Saline County, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at First Assembly of God Church in Columbia. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service in Columbia.
Born Oct. 1, 1915, in Urbana, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Eva Lina Parker. On Nov. 2, 1938, in Slater, he married Mona Belle Miller, who survives of the home. He was later pastor of the Assembly of God church in Slater for three and a half years. After a pastorate in Springfield, he and his family moved to Columbia, where he founded and pastored First Assembly of God Church until his retirement in 1984. He was heard on weekly Sunday morning radio broadcasts on KFRU for 39 years. During his tenure in the ministry, he also served as assistant superintendent of the West Central District Council of the Assemblies of God and he was a sectional presbyter for more than 30 years.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Charla Smith of Baton Rouge, La.; one son, Dan Parker of Lenexa, Kan.; one sister, Hattie Mae Parker of Marshall; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Koelling; one son, Charles "Chuck" Parker; four brothers; and one sister.
