Mr. Kueck was born January 28, 1925, in Concordia, Missouri, to Ben and Lilly Rehkop Kueck. He served three years in the Air Force during World War II and also held his civilian pilots' license. He married Marian Schelp on June 15, 1947.
Mr. Kueck began his college education at Texas A&M, later transferring to the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He was a graduate of Purdue University's Management School and subsequently taught insurance-related short courses there.
His professional career was spent in the insurance industry. He retired from Shelter Insurance where he was vice president of Daniel Boone Underwriters. He served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and was president of the National Farm Conference of NAMIC. He was president of the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and served on that board of directors for many years.
He had been a member of Cosmo Club, Lions Club, American Legion, Civic Club and served on organizational boards of directors for the Tri-City Country Club and the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home in Concordia, Missouri. He was also a volunteer fire chief and active in civic and church endeavors. He was a long time member of the board of directors at Concordia Bank.
He played high school and college basketball and was a referee certified with the Missouri State High School Athletic Association. He was also a softball player, a bowler, a tennis player, a water skier and card player. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Columbia Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marian; his son and daughter-in-law, Greg Kueck and Michelle Chapman Kueck of Topeka, Kan.; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Kueck Young and John Young of Dallas, Texas; his grandchildren, Rachel Kueck and Ryan Kueck of Topeka, Kan. Also surviving are his sisters Nadine Gieseke and Fern Haunschild, both of the state of California. He was preceded in death by a son, parents, and brother.
He was a lifelong active member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He served as president and elder of Trinity Lutheran Church and taught Bible class.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2201 W. Rollins in Columbia from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 19. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. at the church on Monday, February 20. A brief graveside service will be held the same day at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Concordia, Missouri. Reverend Kenneth Gerike will officiate.
