Vearle Louise Cain, 72, of Baytown, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at her home in Baytown, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in WaKeeney, Kan. Pastor Randy Gibbs will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, and 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, Kan. Interment will be in Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kan. Memorials are suggested to Elks Crippled Children's Foundation of Texas in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th, WaKeeney, Kan. 67672.
Born March 4, 1933, in Sheldon, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Roy Tevis and Edith Asbury Tevis. On Oct. 31, 1952, in WaKeeney, Kan., she married Richard Cain, who survives of the home. She was a retired licensed vocational nurse. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and TOPS Club No. 594, both in Baytown, Texas; Elks Lodge Auxiliary in Clear Lake, Texas; and the WaKeeney Miriam Rebekah Lodge No. 465. She attended Mt. Zion Bible School in Ava.
Survivors include two daughters, Twyla Leake of Baytown, Texas, and Penny Anderson of WaKeeney, Kan.; two sisters, Iva Morts of Fulton and Viola Crawford of Marshall; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Sammy Tevis, Alvin Tevis, Galen Tevis, Ronnie Tevis and Leroy Tevis; and two sisters, Fern Gilbert and Opal Trowbridge.
