Edsell Leon Simmons, 69, of Walterboro, S.C., formerly of Marshall, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Charleston, S.C. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home in Walterboro.

Born Jan. 9, 1937, in Colleton County, he was the son of the late Howell Simmons and Audry Colson Sanders. He was a former meat cutter with Wilson Foods in Marshall. He also worked at Lents Red and White and Rodenburg's Supermarket in Charleston, S.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and attended Living Word Church.

Survivors include one sister, Leona Wilson of Sedalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
