Ruth S. Groves
Ruth S. Groves, 89, of Liberty, formerly of Bethany, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at a Liberty hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Liberty Manor Baptist Church in Liberty. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Bethany at 3 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the youth ministry of Liberty Manor Baptist Church or Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Maintenance Fund in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, Mo. 64424.
Born Feb. 22, 1917, in Harrison County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ettie Sutton. She grew up in Bethany and rural Harrison County. In 1935, she married Orval Groves, who survives of the home. The couple moved from Bethany, living in Jefferson City, St. Louis and then Liberty. During World War II, she worked at a small arms ammunition plant in St. Louis. She later worked at Safeway then National Commercial Bank and Commerce Bank in Liberty before retiring in 1980. She and her husband were charter members of Liberty Manor Baptist Church and South Liberty Baptist Church. She served as treasurer of the churches for 27 years. She and her husband also hosted travel tours for senior citizens throughout the United States and in foreign countries.
Additional survivors include one son, Richard Groves of Liberty; one sister, Mary Barron of Marshall; one sister-in-law; two grandsons; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
