Robert Jerome Younger, 80, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Saline County, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Rev. Don Simmons will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Witcher Family Cemetery at Marshall Junction. Memorials are suggested to the Witcher Family Cemetery Association or American Red Cross.

Born March 18, 1925, on the family farm in Saline County, he was the son of the late Jerome Younger and Sarah "Sally" Donnell Younger. He graduated from Marshall High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1943 until March 1946. He was a member of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association and a member of the International Typographical Union. In 1981 he retired from McCall's Publishing Company/Dayton Press after 31 years of service. In 1969, along with his wife Mary Evelyn, he founded Morningside House, a Civil War book publishing business and therein established himself in the Civil War book trade.

Survivors include his wife Mary Evelyn Younger; one sister, Virginia Y. Finley of Marshall Junction; three nieces, Sally Ann Johnson of Houstonia, Peggy Finley of Blue Springs and Beth Oyler of Liberty; and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son in 1958.
