Bert W. North, 83, of Slater, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Robert Sisney will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will accompany Donald Martin as he sings "Rock of Ages" and "In The Garden." Pallbearers will be Tom Malan, Jimmy North, Danny Bryson, Willie Bryson, Carl Young and Gene Avery. Honorary pallbearers will be Bart North, Dustin McGary and Zach Huebner. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Burial with military honors will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post No. 78 or the Alzheimer's Association.
Born Aug. 15, 1922, in Camden County, Missouri, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Stella Bell Stone North. On June 1, 1944, in Sedalia, he married Virginia Shepard, who survives of the home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Slater. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 78 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4367. He retired after 47 years of service from International Shoe Company in Marshall. He later worked at B&B Farm Supply in Slater.
Additional survivors include one son, Wesley North of Higginsville; two daughters, Karen Avery of Slater and Kathy McGary of Glasgow; one sister, Grace Murdock of Milford, Utah; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Charles North, seven brothers and three sisters.
