Kathryn Laura Heins, 87, of Redwood City, Calif., formerly of Marshall, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Hope Lutheran Church in San Mateo, Calif. Private interment will be in Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 1650 S. Amphlett Blvd. No. 110, San Mateo, Calif. 94402; Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 600 W. 42nd Ave., San Mateo, Calif. 94403; or to Meals on Wheels, 36 37th Ave., San Mateo, Calif. 94403. Sneider and Sullivan Funeral Home of San Mateo is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Lester Hall Ransberger and Emma Dora Seibert. She had worked at the Marshall Democrat-News and for TWA in Kansas City. She moved to San Carlos, Calif., in 1971. She was a member of South San Mateo Women's Club and a former president. She was active in the American Cancer Society and Hope Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Shepherd of Danville, Calif., and Janet McCarter of Mission Woods, Kan.; two grandchildren, John and Matthew McCarter; and two sisters-in-law, Pearl Heins and Ruth Kendall, both of Kansas City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Heins; and one sister, Dorothy Henderson.
