Kenneth "Kenny" Charles Harper, 45, of Mission, Kan., died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Charter Funeral Homes, 10250 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., Shawnee, Kan. A remembrance service will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rosedale Masonic Lodge of Merriam, Kan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Burnett Burn Center in care of the KU Endowment Association or online at www.kuendowment.org.

Born Aug. 18, 1960, he was the son of Donald Harper Sr., who survives of Paola, Kan., and Judith Heck, who survives of Overland Park, Kan. On Jan. 6, 1998, he married Crystal Mallicoat, who survives of the home. He joined the Mission, Kan., Fire Department as a volunteer and later joined the city fire department in Leawood, Kan., where he was a firefighter III for 22 years before retiring in 2002. He also worked as a firefighter for the Stanley Fire Department.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Nicholette Harper, of Slater; one brother, Donald Harper Jr. of Louisburg, Kan.; one stepson, Greg Pfannes of Shawnee, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
