Howard A. Johnson, 91, of Slater, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Slater United Methodist Church. Rev. Jess Spurgin will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Donald Martin as he sings "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers will be Don Francis, William Kilgore, Ronald Holland, Jimmy Johnson, Jerry Johnson and Sonja Holland. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born March 24, 1914, in Slater, he was the son of the late William M. and Ethlyn Beach Johnson. On March 10, 1951, in Parsons, Kan., he married Ruth M. Wilks, who preceded him in death July 1, 2001. He was a member of Slater United Methodist Church and retired from Mobil Oil Co. in Kansas City. After retirement, he served as city clerk for Slater. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 78 in Slater and Disabled American Veterans Post No. 50 in Sedalia. He was a member of the Missouri State Historical Society and had returned to Slater in 1973, moving from Kansas City.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
