Marjorie L. Green, 84, of Slater, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Elaine Allred will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Donald Martin as he sings "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee." Pallbearers will be Gary Lee Meyer, Paul Wayne Meyer, Bobby Fisher, Jessie Fisher, Michael Green and Tommy Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Meyer, J.T. Meyer, Randy Fisher, Jerry Green and Chris Wolfe. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to New Prospect Baptist Church.
Born July 19, 1921, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Raymond L. and Margretta Sleyster Yates. On May 1, 1937, in Marshall, she married Jessie W. Green, who preceded her in death June 4, 1977. She was a member of Slater Assembly of God and a lifelong area resident.
Survivors include two sons, William E. "Sonny" Green of Blackwater and Jerry Wayne Green of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Nellie Meyer of Slater; two sisters, Ruth Samuels and Mildred Scarborough, both of Marshall; one brother, Joe Yates of Marshall; 16 children and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Billie Sue Fisher, and one sister, Doris Smith.
