Judge Dennis Rolf, presiding judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit, handed down sentences in the cases against Corey D. Winn, Christopher G. Pickett, Robert Roy Scott and Lawrence L. Fane.
Winn, 26, of Marshall, was arrested early Aug. 2 following a raid on his house by Marshall police. Officers found a bag of marijuana, a spoon and several plastic bags with cocaine residue, a partially-smoked marijuana cigar and three chunks of cocaine in rock form. The officers also recovered a pill that tested positive for the presence of opiates hidden inside a bag of frozen broccoli.
Winn was charged with class C felony possession of a controlled substance. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections.
Pickett's arrest was made on Aug. 3 following a raid on the 28-year-old's Marshall residence. Authorities confiscated 5.2 grams of marijuana, .3 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of cocaine.
Pickett was subsequently charged with two counts of class C felony possession of a controlled substance. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.
In addition, Rolf revoked a probationary term issued to Pickett in 2002 for class C felony stealing. A prison term of seven years, to run concurrently with the other terms, was reinstated.
Scott, 45, was picked up by police in September after he was spotted hitchhiking along U.S. Highway 65. Upon seeing the officer, Scott reportedly threw several items into a nearby ditch.
Those items were identified as a pill bottle containing 58 tablets labeled Marinol and a plastic bag containing 21 blue pills later identified as Xanax. Both Marinol -- a synthetic preparation of the drug found in marijuana -- and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax are controlled substances.
Scott, a resident of Kansas City, was also charged with class C felony possession of a controlled substance. After pleading guilty, he received a sentence of seven years. Rolf also revoked a probationary term issued in 2004 for class C felony assault in the second degree. A sentence of seven years was imposed.
Both of Scott's sentences are to run concurrently and Rolf retained jurisdiction in the cases, meaning Scott could be released from prison after 120 days of shock detention.
Fane, 22, was arrested after officers spotted him driving past his house, which was being searched for signs of drug activity. Officers recovered marijuana, a partially-smoked marijuana cigarette and .2 grams of crack cocaine and arrested Fane after a foot pursuit and struggle.
Fane was charged with class C felony possession of a controlled substance and class D felony resisting arrest. He was sentenced to seven years in the Department of Corrections for the first count, with the execution of sentence suspended and five years probation. On the second count he was ordered to serve 30 days in the Saline County Criminal Justice Center.
