Herbert L. Gehlken, 90, of Sweet Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville with military rites. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice in care of Cambell-Lewis Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 10, 1915, at Sweet Springs, he was the son of the late August Gehlken and Minnie Lemke Gehlken. On March 23, 1963, in Kansas City, he married Ruby M. Wilmoth, who preceded him in death Nov. 12, 2003. He had lived in Sweet Springs most of his life. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs. He retired from General Motors in 1979, previously working at International Shoe Company in Sweet Springs. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the National Coon Hunters Association.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
