Herbert E. Malan, 76, of Miami, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Miami First Baptist Church. Roger Mabrey and William W. Harlow will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Miami First Baptist Church or Miami Cemetery Association.
Born Oct. 8, 1928, in Miami, he was the son of the late Cyrus Crete Malan and Frieda Enetta Mehrhoff Malan. On Jan. 1, 1954, he married Shirley Rudd, who survives of the home. He had lived in Miami his entire life and was a farmer. He was a member of Miami First Baptist Church and Friends of Miami. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 78 in Slater.
Additional survivors include one son, Barry Lee Malan and wife Susan of Columbia; one daughter, Wilma Guilbeau of Shawnee, Kan.; three grandchildren, Kathryn and Ryan Malan and Evan Guilbeau; three brothers, Cyrus L. Malan of Marshall Junction, Walter Malan of Miami and Roger Malan of Buffalo; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister in infancy.
