L. Edward Heard, 85, of Slater, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Slater United Methodist Church. Rev. Jess Spurgin will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robbie Roth, Bill Grandstaff, Ronnie Reuter, James Heard, Ben Conrow and Bill Mahurin. Honorary pallbearers will be A.W. Neff, Robert James, Geary Norris, Harold Jackson, Joe Clements Sr., Marion Ryan and Beno Messer. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial with military honors will be in the Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Slater United Methodist Church.
Born May 26, 1920, in Zora, he was the son of the late Charley E. and Beulah Marriott Heard. On June 6, 1947, in Slater, he married Shirley E. Moore, who survives of the home. He was a member of Slater United Methodist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 78 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4367, both in Slater. He was employed for many years by the city of Slater in the water and sewer department until his retirement.
Additional survivors include one son, James E. Heard of Slater; one daughter, Pamela E. Roth of Pilot Grove; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one grandson.
