James N. Carton, 88, of Marshall, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Golden Oaks Retirement Home in rural Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. James Long will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Chuck Hird, Jans Carton, Jeff Donovan, Robert Conaway and Jason Marshall. Memorials may be made to Butterfield Youth Services or Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Born Aug. 14, 1917, in Massena, N.Y., he was the son of the late Harold C. Carton and May Louise Nichols Carton. On April 1, 1939, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, he married Vera L. Sliter, who preceded him in death Oct. 31, 1999. He had lived in Marshall since 1987, moving from Massena and was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Massena and the Massena Masonic Lodge No. 513.
Survivors include three sons, James M. Carton and wife Joanie of Munnsville, N.Y., John W. Carton and wife Jacki of Marshall and Jerrold S. Carton and wife Jeanne of Marshall; two sisters, June Kennedy of Martinsburg, W.V., and Joyce Longshore of Madrid, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Lisa Carton, Susan Lopez, Jennifer Jones, Jans Carton, Julie Conaway, Tara Donovan and Carrie Marshall; nine great-grandchildren, Nicolas Lopez, Benjamin Lopez, Alex Jones, Jesse Conaway, Katherine Conaway, Lily Conaway, Fiona Carton, Symone Carton and Aleksei Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
