Public meeting set to discuss Miami bridge

Thursday, September 15, 2005
The Missouri Depart-ment of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Miami Community Building regarding proposed improvements to the Highway 41 Missouri River bridge between Dewitt and Miami. An open-house format will be utilized for the meeting allowing members of the public to offer input and to discuss the project with MoDOT staff.

This project provides maintenance of the Miami Missouri River bridge including painting and replacement of expansion joints. Repair of some structural steel members will also be performed as part of this project. Highway 41 will be closed at the bridge and traffic will be detoured over Highway 24 and U.S. Highway 65 during construction. MoDOT, however, will make every effort to minimize inconvenience to motorists by scheduling the work to avoid conflict with school and harvest activities.

Construction is expected to begin during the summer of 2006. The project will take approximately three months to complete, depending on weather conditions.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting to provide comments on the proposed improvement.

For more information, contact the MoDOT District 2 Customer Service Center at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636). The center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
