Cecil Saylor, 92, of Sweet Springs, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Sweet Springs Villa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs. Rev. Charles Ahlemann will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sweet Springs Volunteer Fire Department in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.
Born July 9, 1913, in Sweet Springs, he was the son of the late Otis G. Saylor and Stella Jane Canida Saylor. On Dec. 11, 1936, he married Iva Mae Wiley, who preceded him in death July 10, 2002. He had lived in Sweet Springs most of his life and retired as a foreman with the Missouri State Highway Department in 1978 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Sweet Springs Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Sweet Springs.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorene "Tootie" Speake of Forest, Va., and Edna Saylor of Independence; one son, Charles Saylor of Independence; two brothers, Junior Saylor of Marshall and Lloyd Saylor of Garland, Texas; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and four sisters.
