Earl E. Shriner Sr., 79, of Slater, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Terry Sandwith will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers will be Howard Hoffmeyer, Larry Avery, Christopher Rickerson, Robert Scott, Jimmy Scott and Phillip Jones Jr. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Born Jan. 11, 1926, in Miles City, Mont., he was the son of the late Robert S. and Helen Postlewait Shriner. On July 22, 1978, in Kansas City, Kan., he married Viola M. Wederski, who survives of the home. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post No. 78 in Slater, where he had been the bingo caller for the past 14 years. He was a member of the volunteer fire department in Bonner Springs, Kan., and was a retired welder with Owens Corning.

Additional survivors include four daughters; two sons; four stepsons, Mitchell Jones of Norton, Kan., William Scott of Slater, Jimmy Scott of Kansas City and Robert Scott of Springfield; five stepdaughters, Nyra Moore of Edwardsville, Kan., Linda Scott of Marshall, Marilyn Jones of Overland Park, Kan., Barbara Crider of Kansas City, Kan., and Tammy Cantrell of Union; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
