Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. William W. Harlow and Father Kevin Gormley will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the church. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Pat Yates Veterans Memorial Fund or American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in St. Louis, in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born Jan. 27, 1948, in Saline County, he was the son of Joseph E. Yates, who survives of rural Marshall, and the late Frances Lucille Persinger Yates. On Nov. 27, 1969, he married Barbara Dennis, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County his entire life and was a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Malta Bend High School and attended Missouri Valley College. He was manager at Gibson's Discount Store and was postmaster at the Malta Bend post office. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970 and was a 35-year member of Malta Bend American Legion Post 558.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Yates and husband Scott Hruby of Edwardsville, Ill., and Jennifer Yates of Kansas City; one son, Christopher Yates and wife Kimberly of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Gary Yates of Marshall and Jerry "Danny" Rogers of Pittsburg, Kan.; one sister, Barbara Cullington of Cortez, Colo.; one half-sister, Christina Repp of Napton; three grandchildren, Luke Hruby and Zachary and Megan Yates; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
