Donald R. Peel, 75, of Gilliam, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Chris Weber will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "Beyond the Sunset." Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Gilliam Baptist Church.
Born Oct. 3, 1929, in Slater, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Elizabeth McMellen Peel. On July 31, 1974, in Moberly, he married Virginia Farley Mancell, who survives of the home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and had lived in Gilliam for 35 years, moving from Slater.
Additional survivors include five sons, Gary Peel of Gary, Ind., Daul W. Peel of Gilliam, Dave Peel of Kansas City, Jimmy Mancell of Slater and Robert "Rocky" Mancell of Slater; three daughters, Donna Mancell of Slater, Sue Kellum of Aurora, Ill., and Diane Richardson of Mexico; one sister, Betty Burnett of Marshall; one brother, Clarence Lavern Peel of Independence; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Deis.
