Mary Evelyn Dawes, 79, of Lee's Summit, formerly of Marshall, died Saturday, July 9, 2005.
Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at the rose garden at Unity Village in Lee's Summit. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested towards a memorial plaque at Powell Gardens, 1609 NW U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO 64061.
Born Aug. 24, 1925, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Willie Lucille Thorp Eades. On Dec. 24, 1942, she married Robert P. Dawes, who preceded her in death June 13, 1997. She was a graduate of Marshall High School. The couple lived in Raytown following World War II and together they operated Dawes Construction Company for 40 years. She was an interior decorator, working in several design shops as well as on designers' show houses. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, the local Gamma Chapter of Theta Chi Gamma sorority and First Baptist Church in Raytown.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice L. Beck of Columbia and Katherine "DeDe" Jones of Lee's Summit; one brother, William Eades of Kansas City; one sister, Charlene Norris of Wellsville; and three grandchildren.
