Velma Marie Hodges, 92, of Independence, formerly of Malta Bend, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at Independence Regional Hospital in Independence.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at Brooking Cemetery in Raytown. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Marshall.

Born April 20, 1913, in Leeton, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Riding. She was a certified nurses' aide and retired from Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Survivors include one son, Joe Morrison of Illiff, Colo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
