Aubrey "Short" Walter, 88, of Marshall, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Rev. Rich Shugert will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
Born Dec. 30, 1916, in Mystic, Iowa, he was the son of the late Mearl Walter and Blanche Minor Walter. On March 18, 1939, he married Ileta M. Luse, who preceded him in death Feb. 2, 1998. He had lived in Marshall since 1977, moving from Centerville, Iowa. He was employed and later owned the Conoco service station in Centerville and had also worked at Clouser Auto Parts in Marshall. He was a member of Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, and was also a member of the Marshall Garden Club.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Walter and wife Cheryl of rural Marshall, Jeteriah "Jet" Walter and wife Sandra of rural Marshall and Kevin Walter and wife Shelly of rural Marshall; four sisters, Maxine Simmons of Hinsdale, Ill., Elousie Gardner and Carolyn VanDorin, both of Moravia, Iowa, and Annabelle Wilson of Sycamore, Ill.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Loren Walter, Maurice Walter and Mearl Dean Walter; and two sisters, Zola Walter and Orleta Walter.
