Maurine Simmons, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Grand Pass, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. Doug Gilpin will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Grand Pass. Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Lions Eye Bank.
Born July 29, 1917, in the Grand Pass area, she was the daughter of the late John Gorman and Grace Edwards Gorman. On Dec. 25, 1937, she married Alfred Simmons, who survives of the home. She had lived in the Grand Pass community for 85 years, living in Springfield for the past two and a half years. She served as postmaster of Grand Pass for 18 years and as Malta Bend postmaster for over 18 years. She was a member of Grand Pass Christian Church for over 70 years. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, National Association of U.S. Postmasters and Malta Bend American Legion Auxiliary Post 558.
Additional survivors include one son, Gerald Simmons and wife Linda of Lake Pomme de Terre; three grandchildren, Heather Mitchell of Elsberry, Jeff Simmons of Festus and Kim Simmons of Pomme de Terre; four great-grandchildren, Ninita Chirino, Chelsea Mitchell, Kaitlyn Mitchell and Joseph Michael Simmons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Gary Simmons.
