Benjamin E. Thomas, 78, of Slater, died Monday, May 23, 2005, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Terry Sandwith will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "An Evening Prayer." Pallbearers will be Sam Jones, Ben Frazee, Jim Ed Peel, Larry Murdock, Joe Clements Jr. and Stephen Allegri. Burial with military honors will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to Missouri Lions' Eye Tissue Bank.
Born Aug. 8, 1926, in Warsaw, he was the son of the late Jesse and Isadore Cooper Thomas. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church north of Slater. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post No. 78 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4367, both in Slater. He was a longtime member of the Slater Lions Club and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include two brothers, Dale Thomas and Roy Thomas, both of Slater; and several nieces and nephews.
