Lydia Marie Nierman Oetting, 96, of Emma, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma. Rev. Walter Snyder and Dr. Larry Oetting will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Emma. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran School or Concordia University in Seward, Neb.
Born Jan. 7, 1909, near Concordia, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Emilie Brackman Nierman. On April 5, 1931, in Concordia, she married Norbert W. Oetting, who preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1984. She had lived in Emma most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma, where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of its Dorcas Society and had served as a zone officer for LWML for many years.
Survivors include four sons, Eugene Oetting and wife Peg of Seward, Neb., Larry Oetting and wife Kitty of Seward, Bob Oetting and wife Carol of Charleston, Ill., and Dennis Oetting and wife Donna of Hong Kong; two daughters, Lois Pomerenke and husband Gerald of Miami and Sharon Sherrill and husband Michael of Farmington; one sister, Esther Peterson of Eastpoint, Mich.; one brother, Alfred Nierman of Concordia; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Oetting; one infant son; five sisters, Amalia "Molly" Nierman, Anna Becker, Dorothea Keck, Hulda Becker and Helen Beerman; three brothers, Alvin Nierman, Walter Nierman and Fritz Nierman; and one great-granddaughter, Taya Mae Pomerenke.
