Police rule out one as suspect in truck thefts

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

The Marshall Police Department's announcement that several suspects were being sought in connection with the theft of several vehicles from John Rector Motors generated considerable interest, particularly from the man identified as Suspect 2.

Marshall Police Chief Jim Simmerman said the man, whose name was not released, voluntarily came to police following the release of his picture to media outlets.

After providing a statement to authorities, the man was ruled out as a suspect.

Simmerman said the man apparently came into a local convenience store at the same time as another man who may have been involved in the thefts.

Marshall police continue to investigate the incident which took place in the early-morning hours Saturday and are still looking for the first suspect, described as a black male standing between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall with shoulder length black hair.

While one truck was recovered a short distance from the dealership, the second remains missing. It is a white 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD with an extended cab and four-wheel drive possibly bearing a dealer tag with the numbers 832Z or temporary tags marked MO4-78L, MO4-79L or MO4-80L.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Marshall Police Department at (660) 886-7411.
