Pearlleta Carr Cunningham, 95, of Slater, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Slater United Methodist Church. Rev. Penny Smith will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany the congregation in singing "It is Well With My Soul" and "Hymn of Promise." Pallbearers will be Joe Aull, Paul Vaillancourt, Daniel Morton, Charlie Guthrie, Ira Crumbaugh and Edward Morton. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Oct. 6, 1909, in rural Slater, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Mary Cooper Carr. On March 11, 1981, in Slater, she married Rev. Keith K. Cunningham, who preceded her in death July 3, 1992. She was a member of Slater United Methodist Church, Slater Travel Club, and a charter member of the Missouri Valley Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu. She was a past member of the Slater Library Board and served 15 years as a member of the Slater public school board. She was a 1931 graduate of Missouri Valley College with a bachelor of arts degree in English, social studies and French. She attended Chadron State University in Chadron, Neb., and received a master's degree in education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. She taught junior high and senior English, social studies and French at Slater public schools. For the majority of her teaching career, she taught fourth grade at Slater, retiring in 1980 after 47 years of service.
Survivors include two stepsons, L.G. Cunningham of Chamblee, Ga., and Dr. K.K. Cunningham of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandson.
